Classical Uprising welcomes people of all abilities to our performances and programs. Classical Uprising presents  in multiple  platforms and in various  venues in the Greater Portland area and Brunswick. We prioritize ADA-compliancy and universal access when choosing venues. We  all deserve access, and all have different needs.

If there are additional ways to help you to better access our programs that are not currently being addressed,  please contact Julia Dilger, at info@classicaluprising.org.

Accessibility at The Desert of Maine

Parking

The parking lot is packed gravel and has four designated accessible parking spaces, two of which are van-accessible, positioned close to the Welcome Center

Building Entry

An ADA-compliant stone pathway leads from the accessible parking spots to the Welcome Center. The entrance and exit of the Welcome Center have stone ramps leading in and out of the building. Sliding doors are left open, weather permitting.

Ticketing & Box Office

Classical Uprising’s box office can be accessed at the entrance to the Mini Golf, located within The Desert of Maine. The box offers ticket sales and will-call pickup beginning one hour before curtain.

Mobile tickets are also issued and can be accessed through your email. The QR code (not the UPC code) typically can be printed, but you can bring a mobile phone to the event on which to display the email with the Mobile Tickets for entry. Mobile tickets are sent to your email the day of purchase. To locate them in your inbox search ‘Tickets Purchased from Classical Uprising’, it will come from music@classicaluprising.org. Every show has volunteers who can find your ticket by name as well.

Restrooms

Single-occupancy accessible restrooms are located on the side of the Welcome Center, reachable from the boardwalk. Changing tables are available in both restrooms.

Ramps & Elevators

The Desert of Maine has a wooden boardwalk, approximately 200 ft in length, that leads from the Welcome Center to the edge of the dunes to provide a view of the landscape.

The recently excavated Springhouse located on the edge of the dunes can be viewed from a vista point on the dunes or from a closer vantage point which requires navigating down and back up a staircase.

The 1800s farmhouse requires two steps up to enter and exit the front door. An accessible metal ramp is available for entry into the back of the Farmhouse via the left side of the house.

The nature trails are well groomed and span sand, woods, and include some boardwalks over small streams. There are benches in a couple places along the trails. Please keep in mind that the trail that spans the boundary of the dunes is steep in some areas.

The Desert of Maine has one beach wheelchair available for visitors to use on a first come, first-served basis, and can be found outside the Welcome Center as well as multiple all-terrain strollers available for visitors on a first come, first-served basis, and can be found outside the Welcome Center.

Assistive Listening Devices are not available at this venue.

Sign Language Interpretation

ASL interpretation is not scheduled for the performance but can be made available upon request. Please contact Classical Uprising’s Accessibility Coordinator, Julia Dilger at info@classiclauprising.org.
