Portland Bach Experience June Festival 2023

  • Multiple locations (map)

Bach is back, June 2-24, 2023! Join us in Greater Portland, Brunswick, and Camden for world-class live music that bridges generations, connects friends, and strengthens communities. Whether you enjoy full orchestral performances, intimate salons in art galleries, public sing-alongs, outdoor parties, or hands-on events for children, there’s something for everyone to love at the Portland Bach Experience.

HIGHLIGHTS WILL INCLUDE:

  • Joseph Haydn’s The Creation — Celebrate NASA’s new images from 13.5 billion years ago with Haydn’s Creation, a musical “representation of chaos” and the following six days as described by the book of Genesis and Paradise Lost. Featuring 2021 GRAMMY-winning soprano Sarah Brailey.

  • J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 — Part of a six-year cycle, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 uses the unusual instrumentation of two horns, three oboes, and violino piccolo. This year we introduce the first in the cycle of “New Brandenburgs,” six contemporary companion pieces that are inspired by Bach’s original concertos.

  • Haydn: Dialogues — In a multi-season project, the Cramer Quartet reimagines the traditional string quartet cycle. June 2023 features Haydn’s Op. 71 quartets alongside a commissioned work composed by inti figgis-vizueta.
