Growing Up [Your Town] is part artist residency, part touring production—designed to help your community celebrate its unique voice through music, movement, and collaborative storytelling. 

In partnership with local leaders, we co-create an unforgettable performance that uplifts stories of hope and belonging - rooted in your people and your place.

  • A Customized Performance (70 minutes)

A powerful, family-friendly concert that brings your community’s stories to life—crafted by our professional artistic team and performed in collaboration with your local choir.

  • Community Outreach Programs

A ready-to-use curriculum with writing prompts, interview questions, and art activities that help participants (ages 9 to 99) reflect on their childhoods, fears, hopes, and dreams.

  • Collaborative Libretto

We’ll transform your community’s words into a fully crafted libretto—your poems become lyrics, your childhood games become rhythms, your stories become song.

  • Music by acclaimed composer, Judd Greenstein

You’ll receive complete vocal scores, instrumental parts, video projections, and performance materials based on the original Growing Up Maine score by acclaimed composer Judd Greenstein.

  • The Performance

Part community celebration, part concert—the result is a joyful, heartbreaking, and hopeful 70-minute experience that honors the voices of your town.

 

Who Makes It Happen?

YOUR COMMUNITY CHOIR

A mid-level amateur choir (24–70 singers) drawn from a local university, church, school, or arts nonprofit. Prepared by your local conductor.

Electric guitar, bass guitar, piano, percussion, clarinet, and flute—performed by our professional ensemble.

  • Growing Up [Your Town] is designed for towns, cities, schools, universities, arts nonprofits, and faith-based organizations that want to engage their community in a meaningful, creative project. It’s ideal for places with diverse populations and a strong sense of local identity.

  • Costs vary depending on location, performance scope, and customization level. We offer scalable packages with optional grant-writing support. Fill out the inquiry form and we’ll provide a detailed quote.

  • A mid-level amateur choir of 24–70 singers is ideal. This could be a university ensemble, community chorus, church choir, or youth/adult choir. The group should be comfortable with part-singing and ready to rehearse several weeks in advance.

  • Your community does! We provide a curriculum of prompts and activities to collect stories, poems, memories, and ideas from local participants. Our artistic team then transforms those words into a collaborative libretto.

  • We recommend 6–12 months from initial planning to performance. This allows time for community outreach, story collection, choir rehearsals, and logistical coordination.

  • Absolutely. While the main choir is adult or mixed-age, we welcome youth participants in storytelling, visuals, and special performance segments. We’ll help you find the right way to include them.

  • Any performance space that accommodates your choir, our 6-piece band, and an audience—such as a concert hall, church, school auditorium, or community center. We’ll work with you to adapt the setup as needed.

  • Yes! While the score is based on Judd Greenstein’s original music, each performance is personalized through your community’s libretto, and we can tailor portions of the score to highlight local talent or traditions.
